Takakage Shijo

A nobleman during the late Kamakura and Nanboku-cho periods. His father was Nishioji Takamasa, a branch of the Shijo clan. He was the founder of the Aburanokoji clan. In 1331, when Emperor Go-Daigo's plan to overthrow the shogunate (the Genko Rebellion) failed and Emperor Kogon ascended to the throne, he became Kurodo no tori (head of the Chamberlain), and in the same year, he was a councilor. However, when Emperor Go-Daigo returned to Kyoto in 1332, he was suspended from his official position. However, after the division of the Northern and Southern Courts, he joined the Northern Court and was reappointed as a councilor, and gained the trust of the retired Emperor Kogon, becoming a betto (a person in charge of the retired Emperor's cloistered government). In 1347, he became a provisional chief minister. During this time, he had conflicts with Kofuku-ji Temple, and was expelled from the clan twice, but was pardoned both times. In 1364, he became a monk under the precepts of the Cloistered Emperor Kogon, and took the post of Kanjo. He has a diary, "Ryūin-kyōki."

鎌倉末・南北朝期の公卿。父は四条家支流西大路隆政。油小路家の祖。元弘1(1331)年後醍醐天皇の討幕計画(元弘の乱)が挫折し光厳天皇が践祚すると蔵人頭となり,同年参議。しかし同3年の後醍醐天皇の帰京により官位を停止されたが,南北朝分裂後は,北朝に属して参議に再任され光厳上皇の信任を厚くし,上皇の院政を支える別当となった。貞和3/正平2(1347)年権大納言。この間,興福寺と対立するところがあり,2度の放氏(氏族からの追放)を経験するがともに許された。貞治3/正平19(1364)年に光厳法皇を戒師として出家,法名歓乗。日記に『隆蔭卿記』がある。
