Pot fisheries

Pot fisheries
A type of miscellaneous fishery in which aquatic organisms are attracted and caught in cages. The definition of a cage is unclear, and the materials and structures vary, but generally, a frame made of iron, bamboo, or wood is used, to which a net is attached and a mouth is attached. There are various shapes, such as cylindrical, truncated cone, rectangular, and kamaboko-shaped. They are used to catch benthic aquatic organisms, mainly crabs, shrimp, and shellfish, but can also be fish and squid. They can be set up alone, but in Japan, most are set up using the longline method, with many cages attached to a long main line with branch lines.
