A nobleman during the Northern and Southern Court period. His father was Left Middle Captain Takazane. He is known as a nobleman of the Southern Court who enjoyed the trust of Emperor Go-Daigo. He was involved in the Shochū Incident (1324) but escaped prosecution, and in 1327 he was appointed councillor. In 1330 he was appointed provisional middle counsellor. During the Genkō Incident (1331), he accompanied Emperor Go-Daigo on his visit to Kasagi, but his whereabouts disappeared. However, he reappeared when the Emperor returned to Kyoto in 1333, and was listed in the Miscellaneous Lawsuit Decision Office and the Office of Rewarding. After the division of the Northern and Southern Courts, he travelled to Yoshino with the Emperor. He was killed in battle against Ashikaga Yoshiakira's army at Otokoyama Hachiman in 1352 (Shohei 7). He was later awarded the title of Left Minister by the Southern Court. He is also known as a poet whose waka poems are included in such works as Shinyo Wakashu and Rikkashu.

南北朝期の公卿。父は左中将隆実。後醍醐天皇の信任を得た南朝の公卿として知られる。正中の変(1324)に関与したが追及を逃れ,嘉暦2(1327)年参議。元徳2(1330)年権中納言。元弘の変(1331)では後醍醐天皇の笠置臨幸に供奉したが消息をたった。しかし正慶2/元弘3(1333)年の天皇帰京に際して再び姿をみせ雑訴決断所,恩賞方などに名を連ねた。南北朝分裂後は,天皇と共に吉野に赴く。文和1/正平7(1352)年の男山八幡での足利義詮軍との戦で戦死。のち南朝から左大臣を贈られた。『新葉和歌集』『李花集』などに和歌が収められた歌人としても知られる。
