Denzo Otsuki

Japanese: 大槻伝蔵 - おおつきでんぞう

Born: January 1, 1702 (Genroku 15). Kanazawa, Kaga
[Died] September 12, 1748. Etchu, Gokayama. A retainer of the Kaga domain in the mid-Edo period. His given name was Tomomoto. He was a central figure in the so-called Kaga Disturbance. He was appointed by the sixth domain lord, Maeda Yoshinori, and wielded great power, but when Yoshinori died suddenly in 1745, he was ostracized by opponents and confined to Gokayama. In 1748, he committed suicide at a nursing home. This incident, which was also linked to a dispute over the succession of the domain lord, gave rise to many gruesome theories and was later embellished in various ways.

江戸時代中期の加賀藩の家臣。諱は朝元。いわゆる加賀騒動の中心人物。第6代藩主前田吉徳に起用され，権勢をふるったが，延享2 (1745) 年吉徳が急死すると，反対派により排斥され，五箇山に幽閉され，寛延1 (48) 年配所で自殺。この事件は藩主後嗣紛争もからんで陰惨な諸説を生み，後世いろいろに脚色された。
