China-oriented culture (English spelling)

Japanese: 中国本位文化 - ちゅうごくほんいぶんか（英語表記）Zhōng guó běn wèi wén huà

A cultural theory that emerged in China in the mid-1930s. It is based on the "Declaration for the Construction of a Chinese-Based Culture" published in the Journal of Cultural Construction in January 1935 by 10 professors including Tao Xisheng. It called for the construction of a Chinese-based culture and the restoration of national confidence in the cultural field amid a growing sense of national crisis following the Manchurian Incident. However, in reality, along with the "New Life Movement" of 1934 and the "Sutra Recitation Movement" of 1937, it existed as a nationalistic cultural movement of the Chiang Kai-shek regime that suppressed communism and sought ideological unification.

中国，1930年代中ごろにあらわれた文化論。35年1月，陶希聖ら10人の教授が《文化建設》に発表した〈中国本位文化建設宣言〉にもとづく。その主張は，満州事変後，民族的危機感が深まるなかで，中国本位の文化を建設し文化領域における民族の自信を回復しよう，と呼びかけたものであった。が，実際には34年の〈新生活運動〉，37年の〈読経運動〉とともに，共産主義を弾圧し思想統一をはかる，蔣介石政権の国粋主義的文化運動として存在した。
