A general term for the Waterberg, Springs, Witbank, and Ermelo coalfields in the Transvaal Province of South Africa. The coal-bearing layers are intercalated in the Permian period, with 3-5 layers of mineable coal, 1-5m thick, generally shallow and gently sloping.
