Kasamatsu Prefecture - Kasamatsuken

Japanese: 笠松県 - かさまつけん
Kasamatsu Prefecture - Kasamatsuken

[History]
Before the Meiji era, this area was part of the Mino and Hida provinces, and at the end of the Edo period, it contained many feudal domains, such as Ogaki Domain, Ogaki Shinden Domain (renamed Nomura Domain in 1869), Kano Domain, Gujo Domain, Takasu Domain, Takatomi Domain, Iwamura Domain, and Naegi Domain, as well as many feudal domains and hatamoto domains, such as Owari Domain, and the Kasamatsu Jin'ya of the Mino Gundai and Takayama Jin'ya of the Hida Gundai, which controlled the Tenryo, were located here. In 1868 (Meiji 1), the Meiji government elevated Takenokoshi, a chief retainer of the Owari Domain, to the position of feudal lord, established the Imao Domain, and established the Kasamatsu Court, followed by Kasamatsu Prefecture and Hida Prefecture (later Takayama Prefecture). In 1870, Takasu Domain was annexed by Nagoya Domain (Owari Domain), and the following year, the domains were abolished and prefectures were established. The prefectures of Mino Province were merged into Gifu Prefecture, and Takayama Prefecture into Chikuma Prefecture. In 1876, Chikuma Prefecture was abolished and the present-day Gifu Prefecture was established.
