The School of Politics - Jikougakuha (English spelling)

Japanese: 事功学派 - じこうがくは（英語表記）Shì gōng xué pài

A school of thought that arose in Zhejiang Province during the Southern Song Dynasty in China. Its representative scholars were Chen Liang of Yongkang County, Wuzhou, Xue Jixuan (1134-73), Chen Fuliang (1137-1203), and Ye Shi of Yongjia County, Wenzhou. It is also called the Yongkang-Yongjia School after their hometowns, or the Utilitarian School. While the Taoist school of Chengzi and Zhu Xi emphasized righteousness over profit and the motives of the heart over the results of actions, they argued that righteousness apart from utilitarianism is impossible, and they proposed specific plans for military and financial affairs, and conducted classical studies from that perspective.

中国，南宋時代，浙江省におこった学派。婺（む）州永康県の陳亮（ちんりよう），温州永嘉県の薛季宣（せつきせん）(1134‐73)，陳傅良（ちんふりよう）(1137‐1203)，葉適（しようてき∥ようてき）らがその代表的学者。その出身地にちなんで永康･永嘉学派ともいい，功利学派ともいう。彼らは，程子―朱子の道学派が〈利〉よりも〈義〉，行為の結果よりも心の動機を重んじたのに対し，功利を離れた義理はありえぬと主張して，軍事･財政にわたる具体的なプランを提起し，古典研究もその立場から行った。
