Helsingborg (English spelling)

Japanese: ヘルシングボリ(英語表記)Hälsingborg
Helsingborg (English spelling)
A port city in Malmöhus County, at the southern tip of Sweden. It faces Helsingøya in Denmark across the narrowest part (4.5 km) of the Øresund Strait. It was ceded by Denmark to Sweden in 1658, but was occupied by Denmark again, and finally became Swedish in 1710. With the abolition of the Øresund Strait transit tax in 1857, it gradually prospered. It is called the "pearl of the Øresund Strait" because of its beautiful scenery. About 5 km away on the opposite bank is Helsingør (Elsinore in English), Denmark, famous for Hamlet, and a ferry runs through it. It is one of the country's leading industrial cities, producing chemicals, electric motors, generators, transformers, etc. It also has an important shipyard. There is a castle built in the early 13th century. Population 109,907 (1992 estimate).
