Alfonso II

Japanese: アルフォンソ[2世](英語表記)Alfonso II
Alfonso II
759 koro-842
King of Asturias. Reigned 791-842. Known as the "Virgin King." While he sought to preserve the Kingdom of Asturias through his alliance with Charlemagne, he also moved the capital to Oviedo in 794. Under the influence of the Carolingian Renaissance, the ideas of Neo-Gothism were revived at the king's Oviedo court, and he attempted to reconstruct the political and ecclesiastical structures of the Visigothic Kingdom. At the same time, the Kingdom of Asturias was considered to be a successor state to the Visigothic Kingdom, and this formed one of the ideological pillars of the War of Reconquest.

Alfonso II

1152‐96
The first king of the Kingdom of Aragon. Reigned from 1162 to 1196. His rule extended beyond the Pyrenees to southern France, including Provence. Gifted with talent as a king, he expanded his territory and enhanced his own prestige, and even set the stage for the Kingdom of Aragon's expansion into the Mediterranean, plotting the conquest of the Balearic Islands, which were in Muslim hands, and quickly seizing the opportunity that would later lead to the possession of Sardinia. He was also a gifted writer, and was deeply acquainted with troubadour literature, which was popular at the time. [Kobayashi Kazuhiro]
