720-757 The third king of Asturias. Reigned 739-757. Son of the Visigothic Duke of Cantabria, he became king under the principle of matrilineal succession after marrying the daughter of Pelayo. While expanding his control over the regions of Castile, Álava, Liébana, and Galicia, he adopted a strategy of forcibly relocating the Visigoths of the Douro Valley into the Kingdom of Asturias and destroying the old cities along the valley as a military response to the powerful Islamic forces.
