A general term for birds in the family Psophiidae (Gruiformes). This family consists of three species: Psophia crepitans , P. leucoptera , and P. viridis . They are found mainly in tropical South America in the Amazon and Orinoco river basins, living in the jungles. Total length is 43-53 cm. All three species are stocky birds with rounded backs like hunchbacks. ツル目ラッパチョウ科Psophiidaeの鳥の総称。この科はセアカラッパチョウPsophia crepitans,ハジロラッパチョウP.leucoptera,アオバネラッパチョウP.viridisの3種からなる。主としてアマゾン川とオリノコ川流域の熱帯南アメリカに分布し,ジャングルの中に生息している。全長43~53cm。3種とも体のずんぐりした鳥で,背がせむしのように丸いのが特徴。次列風切と肩羽が長く,翼をたたんでいると,体の後方に蓑状にかぶさっている。
