Spanish conquistador. He traveled to Cartagena (now Colombia) around 1535. In 1547, he traveled to Peru as part of the royal army to put down the rebellion of G. Pizarro. He was later appointed chronicler by the royal army commander Gasca and wrote "De Peru". This work, which consists of four parts, is incomplete and some parts are lost, but it is an excellent source of information on the Inca Empire and also describes the Peruvian civil war objectively, making it highly reliable. He returned to Spain at the end of 1550, and died of illness after the publication of the first part of "De Peru" (March 1553).

スペイン人コンキスタドール。1535年ころカルタヘナ(現，コロンビア)に渡る。47年G.ピサロの反乱を鎮圧する王室軍隊の一員としてペルーへ渡る。のち王室軍の指揮官ガスカより記録者(クロニスタ)に任命され，《ペルー誌》を執筆。4部から成るこの作品は一部が散逸したり不完全であったりするが，インカ帝国に関する優れた資料であり，ペルー内乱に関しても客観的に記述されており，信憑性は高い。1550年末スペインへ帰り，《ペルー誌》第1部の公刊(1553年3月)後，病没した。
