Nuestra Senora (English spelling)

In the West, especially after the 12th century, with the rise of chivalry, she was called "Our Lady," that is, Notre Dame (French), Nuestra Señora (Spanish), Unsere Liebe Frau (German), Our Lady (English), and in Italy, a little later, Madonna. Also, because she was said to have conceived as a virgin, Maria is also referred to by a word meaning "virgin" (such as the Virgin in English).
