...Street prostitutes were called Yotaka in Edo, Tsuji-kun in Kyoto, Souka or Shiroyumoji in Osaka. Other types of street prostitutes could be considered special. The rapid development of urban society after the Meiji period led to an increase in street prostitutes and a qualitative diversification.
