Altdorfer (English spelling) Albrecht Altdorfer

German painter. His father is believed to be Ulrich Altdorfer, a miniature painter active in Regensburg at the end of the 15th century. He obtained citizenship of Regensburg as a painter in 1505, was appointed city councillor in 1519, and city architect in 1526. In 1535 he went to the Vienna court as a diplomatic envoy. There is also a theory that he traveled to Italy before 1526. He is one of the great painters representing 16th century German art, and produced a wide range of religious, landscape, and historical paintings, as well as many prints and drawings of buildings. He also produced pure landscape paintings such as "Danube Landscape" (c. 1532). He sought to reconcile German forests and mountains with religious themes, and became a central figure in the romantic Danube school. "Battle of Issus" (Alte Pinakothek, Munich) is a masterpiece that depicts the dramatic sympathy between nature and humans in a cosmic perspective.

ドイツの画家。父は15世紀末レーゲンスブルクで活躍した細密画家ウルリヒUlrich Altdorferと推定される。1505年画家としてレーゲンスブルクの市民権を得、1519年市参事会員、1526年市の建築家に任ぜられた。1535年には外交使節としてウィーンの宮廷に赴いた。1526年以前にイタリアへ旅したという説もある。彼は16世紀のドイツ美術を代表する偉大な画家の一人で、制作は宗教、風景、歴史画にわたり、版画や建物を描いたデッサンも多い。『ドナウ風景』（1532ころ）のような純粋風景画もある。ドイツの森や山岳と宗教的な主題との融和を図り、ロマン主義的なドナウ派の中心的存在となった。『イッソスの戦い』（ミュンヘン、アルテ・ピナコテーク蔵）は宇宙的な視野で、自然と人間の劇的な交感を描いた代表作である。
