Prince Naohito

Japanese: 直仁親王 - なおひとしんのう
Prince Naohito

The first son of Emperor Hanazono. His mother was the biological daughter of Senkomon'in. In October 1348 (Sadawa 4, Shohei 3), he was adopted by the retired Emperor Kogon and had his coming-of-age ceremony. On the 20th of the same month, he became the Crown Prince when Emperor Suko of the Northern Court ascended to the throne. In 1351 (Kan'o 2, Shohei 6), he was deposed along with the Emperor when peace was made between the Southern Court and Ashikaga Takauji. When the Southern Court army entered Kyoto, he was transferred to Yamashiro Yawata (Yawata City, Kyoto Prefecture) along with the three retired Emperors Kogon, Komyo, and Suko, and was later imprisoned in Yamato Ano (Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture). In 1357 (Enbun 2, Shohei 12), he returned to Kyoto, became a monk, and lived in Hagiwara Palace, which was the palace of the retired Emperor Hanazono.
