German Lutheran theologian. His father (1861-1925) was also a Lutheran theologian. After graduating from the University of Göttingen and the University of Rostock, he became a professor of systematic theology and New Testament theology at the University of Erlangen in 1925. He was the president of the Luther Society. He inherited the achievements of the "Luther Renaissance" in the first half of the 20th century, and linked them to the contemporary and practical issues of systematic theology and historical theology. His main works are Die letzte Dinge (22), Die christliche Wahrheit (47-48), Die Theologie M. Luthers (62), and Die Ethik M. Luthers (65).

ドイツのルター派の神学者。同名の父 (1861～1925) もルター派の神学者。ゲッティンゲン大学，ロシュトック大学を経て，1925年よりエルランゲン大学組織神学，新約聖書神学教授。ルター協会会長。 20世紀前半の「ルター・ルネサンス」の成果を継承しつつ，それを組織神学，歴史神学の現代的・現実的問題と結びつけた。主著『終末論 (最後究極のこと) 』 Die letzte Dinge (22) ，『キリスト教的真理』 Die christliche Wahrheit (47～48) ，『マルチン・ルターの神学』 Die Theologie M. Luthers (62) ，『マルチン・ルターの倫理』 Die Ethik M. Luthers (65) 。
