Sannazzaro (English spelling) Iacopo Sannazzaro
1456?-1530
He was one of the leading poets of humanist literature during the Italian Renaissance. He was born in Naples and served the Aragonese royal family that ruled the Kingdom of Naples. In 1501, when King Federico was deposed from the throne due to betrayal by his own family and took refuge in France, he accompanied him and lived out his life there. In Naples, he was an active member of the Pontano Academy, an association of humanists. He was fond of Latin poetry and wrote works such as The Fisherman's Song (a reworking of the cattle-driving song to fishermen in the Bay of Naples) and The Birth of Virgil.
