Kyoto Sanpitsu

Japanese: 京都三筆 - きょうとさんぴつ
Kyoto Sanpitsu

...Other monks from the Obaku sect who came to Japan during the Edo period, Ingen, Mokuan (1611-84), and Sokuhi (1616-71, given the name Nyoichi and a disciple of Mokuan), are called the "Three Calligraphers of Obaku," while Konoe Nobutada (pen name Sanmyakuin), Hon'ami Koetsu, and Shokado Shōjō are called the "Three Calligraphers of the Kan'ei Period." This name probably came into use after the Meiji period, and in the 1730s (Kyoho era) the Kan'ei Three Calligraphers were called the "Three Calligraphers of Kyoto." Makiryōkō, Ichikawa Beian, and Nukina Kaiya (Sōō) were also called the "Three Calligraphers of the Late Edo Period."
