In the 19th century, bibliophilia moved to the hands of the common people, and literary bibliophiles such as Nodier, A. Dumas, Charles Asselineau, Pixelecourt, and Octav Uzanne appeared. Under their guidance, excellent bookbinders such as Joseph Thouvenin and Antoine Bauzonnet appeared, and bookbinding techniques were elevated to the level of art. Booksellers such as Jean Crozet and Jacques-Joseph Techener appeared, who were actively involved in collecting and selling rare and beautiful books, and the secondhand book industry in France experienced unprecedented prosperity.
