Japanese: ファキール（英語表記）faqīr

A person who practices mystical practices in the Islamic world. The literal meaning in Arabic is "the poor." It is often used to mean the poor in a spiritual sense rather than the poor in a material sense. It is used to mean a person who is powerless against a self-sufficient God and must depend on God for everything and ask for his assistance. In general, it is often used in the same sense as Sufis and Dervishes, who are practitioners of Islamic mysticism. [Kiichi Furubayashi]
