Three generations of formalities

Japanese: 三代格式 - さんだいきゃくしき

This is a collection of Kaku and Shiki compiled during the Heian period under three emperors: Emperor Saga during the Kōnin era ( 810-824 ), Emperor Seiwa during the Jōgan era (859-877 ), and Emperor Daigo during the Engi era ( 901-923 ). Kaku is a single-line law that amends the Ritsuryo code, which is the basic law code, and Shiki is detailed implementation rules, and the two are used together. Kaku and Shiki were not compiled in a single collection during the Nara period, but this was not done until the Heian period. The Ruiju Sandai Kaku, which classified and organized the Kaku of the three generations, was created shortly after the Engishiki was created, and the contents can be learned from this book. As for the Shiki, the Engishiki is the definitive edition, and a portion of the Kōnin Shiki has been handed down. Sandai Kakushiki.

平安時代、嵯峨天皇の弘仁年間（八一〇‐八二四）、清和天皇の貞観年間（八五九‐八七七）、醍醐天皇の延喜年間（九〇一‐九二三）の三代にそれぞれ編纂された格と式の集成。格は基本法典である律令を改定した単行の法令であり、式は施行細目であって、両者相俟って運用される。格・式は奈良時代、集成して編纂されることがなく、平安時代に至ってこれが行なわれた。三代の格についてはこれを分類整理した「類聚三代格」が「延喜格」の成立後、間もなく成立し、この書によって内容を知ることができる。式は「延喜式」が定本として伝わるほか、「弘仁式」の一部が伝存する。さんだいかくしき。
