[1] 〘名〙 (京(みやこ)の中で皇居から南を向いて右手に当たる部分の意) 平城京、平安京などを、朱雀大路(すざくおおじ)を境にして分けた西半分。西の京。⇔左京。※続日本紀‐天平一三年(741)九月己未「従二賀世山西道一以東為二左京一、以西為二右京一」[2] 京都の行政区の一つ。昭和六年(一九三一)成立。市北西部、桂川の東岸に位置する。龍安寺・天龍寺・仁和寺・大沢池などがある。同五一年に西京区を分区。
