A bill act in which a person assumes the same obligations as one of the recourse obligors (the intervener) in order to prevent recourse when a cause for recourse (refusal to accept, bankruptcy or suspension of payment by the payer) occurs before the maturity of the bill. Article 56 and following of the Bills of Exchange Act only stipulates that this can be done for promissory notes, but the prevailing interpretation is that it can also be done for promissory notes. Anyone other than the payor of the bill of exchange (issuer of the promissory note) can make an intervener acceptance. The intervener is shown on the bill, and the intervener signs it with a statement that it is an intervener acceptance, such as "intervener acceptance" or "to prevent recourse against so-and-so."
