Seto lies between Sanuki and Bizen. It is the narrowest part of the Seto Inland Sea, with a width of 6.7 km between Hibi, Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture and Osakihana, Kagawa Prefecture. From east to east, the islands of the Bisan Islands, including Shodoshima, the Naoshima Islands, the Shiwaku Islands, and the Kasaoka Islands, are lined up here, where the east-west tides meet. Most of the Seto Strait has a current of 3-4 knots, and although the waters off the coast of Ozejima reach a depth of 100 m, most are less than 30 m. It has been a key point for water transport since ancient times, and is blessed with a natural beauty of many islands, and was designated the first national park in 1934. 1,500 ships pass through the area every day, and there are many maritime accidents during the foggy season from early spring to early summer.
