A collection of poems by Saigyo. Three volumes. The number of poems varies depending on the lineage, but the Yomei Bunko edition has 1552 poems, while the Rokukashu edition has 1569. It is divided into four categories: Four Seasons, Love, and Miscellaneous, with the latter showing signs of several additions. At the end of the volume is a collection of one hundred poems. The year of its creation and whether it was selected by Saigyo himself or others are unknown, but it does not include any poems from his final years, and the descriptions in the notes are often detailed and seem to be autobiographical, suggesting that it may have been a compilation of poems written by Saigyo himself before he moved to Ise in his early 60s, with others adding to them. There are quite a few excellent poems, but there are also quite a few mediocre works. One of the Rokukashu. In addition to "Sankashu," Saigyo has several other family anthologies, including "Kikigakishu," "Kikigakizanshu," "Saigyo Hoshi Kashu" (also known as "Saigyo Shoninshu" or "Ihon Sankashu"), and "Sanka Shinchushu." Of these, "Kikigakishu" and "Kikigakizanshu" have almost no overlap with "Sankashu," but "Saigyo Hoshi Kashu" includes overlapping poems and also contains excellent poems not found in "Sankashu," so the relationship between the two is unclear. "Sanka Shinchushu" is considered to be a selection of excellent poems selected by Saigyo himself, and is closely related to "Saigyo Hoshi Kashu." Early modern and modern haiku poets, tanka poets, and poets have been familiar with "Sankashu," but to understand Saigyo's world, this book alone is insufficient; it is advisable to read all of these family anthologies.
