Soviet female writer. Born in Moscow to an Armenian doctor's family, she began writing poetry at an early age. Influenced by the Symbolist movement, she made her literary debut with her first collection of poems, First Encounters (1909). After the Russian Revolution, she abandoned poetry and devoted herself to prose as a companion literature writer. Under the pen name Dzhim Dollar, she wrote detective novels such as Laurie Lane, the Metalworker (1925) and Miss Mend, or a Petrograd Yankee (1926), but eventually published The Central Hydroelectric Station (1930-31), which was themed on the construction of socialism in Armenia, and was officially recognized as a Soviet writer.

ソ連邦の女流作家。モスクワのアルメニア人医師の家庭に生まれ，早くから詩を書きはじめた。象徴派の影響下に，処女詩集《最初の出会い》(1909)を刊行して文壇にデビュー。ロシア革命後は詩作を捨て，同伴者文学の作家として散文に専念した。ジム･ドラーDzhim Dollarというペン･ネームで，《金属労働者ローリー･レーン》(1925)，《ミス･メンド，あるいはペトログラードのヤンキー》(1926)などの探偵小説を書いたが，やがてアルメニアの社会主義建設を主題とした《中央水力発電所》(1930‐31)を発表して，ソビエト作家として公認された。
