1888‐1982 Soviet female writer. Born in Moscow to an Armenian doctor's family, she began writing poetry at an early age. Influenced by the Symbolist movement, she made her literary debut with her first collection of poems, First Encounters (1909). After the Russian Revolution, she abandoned poetry and devoted herself to prose as a companion literature writer. Under the pen name Dzhim Dollar, she wrote detective novels such as Laurie Lane, the Metalworker (1925) and Miss Mend, or a Petrograd Yankee (1926), but eventually published The Central Hydroelectric Station (1930-31), which was themed on the construction of socialism in Armenia, and was officially recognized as a Soviet writer.
