Sayama Hills

Japanese:
Sayama Hills

This hill lies on the border between Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture. It is spindle-shaped on the Musashino Plateau, with the highest point being 194 meters in the west and 80 meters in the east, and its relative elevation from the plateau is 20 to 55 meters. The geology of the hill is an old diluvial deposit called the Sayama Formation, and on top of it is the Tama Loam Formation, which is up to 30 meters thick. In the eastern part of the hill, there are two eroded valleys, one north and one south, carved by the Yanase River, but today these have been dammed up to form reservoirs for Tokyo's water supply, called Lake Tama and Lake Sayama. The entire area is a scenic spot surrounded by red pine forests and mixed forests, and is designated as a natural park run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Saitama Prefecture. Seibu Railway built the Tama Lake Line and Sayama Line here, and tourist facilities such as the Lily Garden and Seibu Garden have been built.

It was built following the Murayama Reservoir (Lake Tama) to secure drinking water for Tokyo. It is located in the center of Saitama Prefectural Sayama Nature Park, and the lakeside is also a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. Japanese:
