Japanese: 西郷[村] - さいごう
Saigo [village] - Saigo
A village in Higashiusuki County in northern Miyazaki Prefecture. Population 3,160 (1995). Located in the middle reaches of the Mimigawa River, most of the village area is mountain forest. It consists of four districts: Tashiro, Tateishi, Kobaru, and Yamasanga. National Route 327 runs along the Mimigawa River, connecting Hyuga City and Shiiba Village. The main industry is agriculture, with livestock farming, shiitake mushroom, tea, chestnut, and tobacco cultivation, and reforestation. With many dams and power plants, it is one of the prefecture's leading power sources. There are scenic spots such as Ooto Falls, Kannon Falls, and Ouchihara Dam Lake, and the Onda Festival is held at Tashiro Shrine every July.

Nishigo [Village]

A village in Nishishirakawa District, southern Fukushima Prefecture. Population 17,920 (1995). Located west of Shirakawa City, it borders Nasu Town, Tochigi Prefecture to the south. It spreads out on the southeastern foot of Mount Katsushi, which is part of the Nasu volcanic belt, and the Abukuma River, flowing east, cuts deep into the plateau, creating a valley. Until World War II, it was known as a horse-breeding area. Dairy farming is practiced on the plateau upstream, and rice farming is the main agricultural practice on the flat land downstream, but in recent years, the influx of factories has been remarkable, and the area has changed from a purely rural area to a suburban rural area. In particular, the area adjacent to Shirakawa City has the Shirakawa Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway and Shin-Shirakawa Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen, and in addition to the existing pulp factories, a cluster of factories for precision machinery, electronic parts, etc. has formed.
