A village in Higashiusuki County in northern Miyazaki Prefecture. Population 3,160 (1995). Located in the middle reaches of the Mimigawa River, most of the village area is mountain forest. It consists of four districts: Tashiro, Tateishi, Kobaru, and Yamasanga. National Route 327 runs along the Mimigawa River, connecting Hyuga City and Shiiba Village. The main industry is agriculture, with livestock farming, shiitake mushroom, tea, chestnut, and tobacco cultivation, and reforestation. With many dams and power plants, it is one of the prefecture's leading power sources. 宮崎県北部,東臼杵郡の村。人口3160(1995)。耳川の中流域に位置し,村域の大半は山林である。田代,立石,小原(こばる),山三箇(やまさんが)の4地区からなり,耳川に沿って日向市と椎葉村を結ぶ国道327号線が通る。主産業は農業で,畜産をはじめ,シイタケ,茶,栗,タバコの栽培,植林が盛ん。ダムや発電所が多く県内有数の電源地帯となっている。大斗の滝,観音滝,大内原ダム湖などの景勝地があり,毎年7月には田代神社で御田祭が行われる。
