A republic belonging to the Russian Federation. Its official name is the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). In Yakut, it is called Sakha Respublikata. Yakutia has also been used as the name of this region since ancient times. In April 1922, it became the Yakut Autonomous Republic within the Russian Soviet Republic, and after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, it became a republic with its current name in 1992.
