...Short bacilli are called short bacilli, and long bacilli are called long bacilli. Some short bacilli, such as Haemophilus influenzae, are difficult to distinguish from cocci because of their short length (influenza is caused by the influenza virus, but Haemophilus influenzae is one of the pathogens that cause secondary complications). Bacilli include chain-like bacilli, and some, such as coryneform bacteria, have multiple bacteria attached together in a V-, Y-, or L-shaped or parallel arrangement.
