Onoe lily - Onoe lily

A biennial plant of the Gentianaceae family (APG classification: Gentianaceae). The stems are 5-25 cm tall. The leaves are broadly lanceolate with bluntly pointed tips and rounded bases without stalks. From August to September, reddish purple or bluish purple flowers bloom upwards at the stem tips or leaf axils. The corolla has four or five lobes. It grows in windy alpine grasslands, and is distributed in southern Hokkaido and the Chubu region of Honshu. The name Onoe means high place. The genus Onoe has finely lobed inner lobes at the throats of the corolla lobes. There are 250 species in the world, of which three are in Japan.

リンドウ科（APG分類：リンドウ科）の越年草。茎は高さ5～25センチメートル。葉は広披針(こうひしん)形、先は鈍くとがり、基部は円く柄(え)はない。8～9月、茎頂や葉腋(ようえき)に紅紫色または青紫色の花を上向きに開く。花冠は4裂ないし5裂する。高山帯の風当りの強い草原に生え、北海道南部、本州の中部地方に分布する。名のオノエは高所の意味。オノエリンドウ属は花冠裂片の喉部(こうぶ)に細裂する内片がある。世界に250種、そのうち日本に3種ある。
