White Deer Cave Academy (English: White Deer Cave Academy)

Japanese: 白鹿洞書院 - はくろくどうしょいん（英語表記）Bai-lu-dong-shu-yuan; Pai-lu-tung-shu-yüan

A school in the Song Dynasty in China. Lushan Wulaofeng (north of Xingzi County, Jiangxi Province) was called Bailu Cave because during the Tang Dynasty, Li Bo retired here, raised a white deer and spent his days happily reading books. During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, a school was built here, called Lushan Classical Learning. During the Song Dynasty, Bailu Cave Academy was built to educate children from the countryside. Zhu Xi (→Zhu Xi) became the principal of Bailu Cave Academy when he was the governor of Nan Kangjun, and devoted himself to teaching here in order to realize the ideals of Confucianism. Lu Jiuyuan (→Lu Xiangshan) also lectured there.

中国，宋代の学校。廬山五老峰 (江西省星子県の北) は，唐代，李渤がここに隠居し，白鹿を養いながら，読書に楽しい日々をおくったので白鹿洞といわれた。五代十国の頃，この地に学校が建てられ，これを廬山国学といった。宋代には白鹿洞書院が建てられ，地方子弟の教育が行われた。朱熹 (→朱子 ) は知南康軍のとき，白鹿洞書院院長となり，儒教の理想実現のためここで教育に従事した。陸九淵 (→陸象山 ) も講義したことがある。
