Kawaguchi Jinzaburou

...Japanese stringed instrument (illustration). Also called "taishokin". Invented in the early Taisho era by Nagoya tsukikin player Kawaguchi Onkai (Jinzaburo), also known as Morita Goro. A piano keyboard is applied to a two-stringed koto, and push buttons such as those found on a typewriter or cash register are attached. By pressing these with the left hand, the strings are pressed against a staff board attached to the top, making it easy to produce a series of notes spaced by semitones. The open string is a low G, and the buttons below are marked with numbers, such as #, #, ..., covering two octaves up to the high G (). ...
