French film from 1959, directed by François Truffaut. This is Truffaut's feature-length debut, and a monumental work that made the Nouvelle Vague known to the world. The improvisational direction and the freshness of Paris, captured with a handheld camera like a documentary, give off a charm that never fades with time. It was officially entered as France's representative at the Cannes Film Festival in 1959, where it caused a great sensation and won the Best Director Award. It is an autobiographical story based on Truffaut's memories of himself as a delinquent boy, and the protagonist, a boy named Antoine Doinel, is Truffaut's alter ego. This boy went on to appear in a series of "Doinel" films over the next 20 years, including Love at Twenty (1962), Lovers in the Night Fog (1968), Family (1970), and Love on the Run (1979), all played by Jean-Pierre Léaud (1944- ), who grew up alongside Doinel.

フランス映画。1959年作品。監督フランソワ・トリュフォー。トリュフォーの長編デビュー作にしてヌーベル・バーグを世に知らしめた記念碑的作品。即興的な演出と、手持ちカメラでドキュメンタリーのようにとらえられたパリの街のみずみずしさは、時代を経ても色あせない魅力を放つ。1959年のカンヌ国際映画祭にフランス代表として正式出品されて大反響をよび、最優秀監督賞を受賞した。自身が不良少年だったトリュフォーの思い出に基づいた自伝的な物語で、主人公の少年アントワーヌ・ドワネルはトリュフォーの分身である。この少年は以後『二十歳の恋』（1962）、『夜霧の恋人たち』（1968）、『家庭』（1970）、『逃げ去る恋』（1979）という20年間に渡る一連の「ドワネルもの」でトリュフォー映画に登場し、すべてをジャン・ピエール・レオJean-Pierre Léaud（1944―　）がドワネルとともに成長しながら演じている。
