tornado

Japanese:
tornado
A large-scale tornado that occurs mainly in North America east of the Rocky Mountains. It is a powerful vortex accompanied by a funnel cloud hanging from the base of the parent cloud (cumulonimbus), and the wind speed near the center is over 100 meters per second. A sound similar to the roar of an airplane can be heard nearby. It is about several hundred meters in diameter, and moves while causing destruction. In the United States, 600 to 700 tornadoes occur annually (May is the most common month, followed by June), causing tremendous damage to buildings and other structures, and measures are taken by issuing forecasts and warnings similar to those for typhoons in Japan. Tornadoes that occur over water are called waterspouts.
