A large number of men and women sleeping together like small fry. It originated from the practice of customers and geisha sleeping in the same room in the entertainment districts of the Kansai region. In Totsukawa (Nara Prefecture) in Yamato and Ohara (Kyoto Prefecture) in Yamashiro, it refers to a folk custom in which men and women sleep together in a certain place on a certain day. 大勢の男女が入り交って雑魚のように寝ること。関西の花街で客と芸妓などが1室に寝ることをいったことから始った。大和の十津川 (奈良県) や山城の大原 (京都府) などでは，定日に一定の場所に男女が枕席をともにする民間習俗をいう。
