Sakuhiko Shuryo - Sakugen Shuryo

A monk of the Muso school of the Rinzai sect in the late Muromachi period. A poetic and prose monk in the late Gozan period. Born in Kyoto as the third son of Inoue Soshin. Also called Kensai and Isai. At the age of nine, he entered the school of Shinno Toan at Rokuon-ji Temple, and at the age of 18, he studied shaving his hair under Shinno at Tenryu-ji Temple, and subsequently inherited his teachings. In 1539 (Tenbun 8), at the request of Ouchi Yoshitaka, he entered China as a deputy envoy on a ship sent to Ming China. In 1547, he entered China again as a principal envoy. After returning to Japan, he lived at Myochi-in Temple in Tenryu-ji Temple, but around 1555 (Koji 1), he was invited by Takeda Shingen to go down to Erin-ji Temple in Kai (Yamanashi Prefecture). Oda Nobunaga asked Sakehiko about the scenery of the Ming Dynasty, and visited Myochi-in Temple to listen to his stories intimately. He passed away on June 30, 1570 at the age of 79. In addition to the records of his visit to the Ming Dynasty, "Shodoshu" and "Saitoshu," he wrote anthologies of poetry and prose, including "Josairenku," "Sakehiko Sanzenku," and "Sakehiko Shishu."

室町後期の臨済(りんざい)宗夢窓(むそう)派の僧。五山末期の詩文僧。井上宗信(いのうえそうしん)の第3子として京都に生まれる。謙斎(けんさい)、怡斎(いさい)などとも称した。9歳のとき鹿苑寺(ろくおんじ)心翁等安(しんのうとうあん)の門に入り、18歳のとき天竜寺において心翁のもとで薙髪(ていはつ)受具、ついで彼の法を嗣(つ)いだ。1539年(天文8)大内義隆(おおうちよしたか)に請われ、遣明船(けんみんせん)の副使として入明。1547年再度正使として入明した。帰国後、天竜寺妙智院(みょうちいん)に住したが、1555年(弘治1)ごろ武田信玄に招かれて甲斐(かい)(山梨県)の恵林寺(えりんじ)に下った。織田信長は策彦に明の風物を尋ね、妙智院に足を運んで親しくその話を聞いた。天正(てんしょう)7年6月30日、79歳で示寂。入明の記録『初度(しょと)集』『再度(さいと)集』のほか、『城西聯句(じょうさいれんく)』『策彦三千句』『策彦詩集』などの詩文集がある。
