Ant-grosbeak - Ant-grosbeak

Japanese: アリノトウグサ - ありのとうぐさ
Ant-grosbeak - Ant-grosbeak
A delicate perennial herb of the Trillium family that grows in sunny grasslands (illustration). It is 10-30 cm tall, with a four-sided reddish-brown stem that branches creepingly at the base. The leaves are small, opposite, and alternate at the top of the stem, ovate to round, 6-10 mm long, and glabrous. The panicle is terminal, and many small, purplish-brown red bisexual flowers are borne on each branch in spikes. The flowers have four sepals and petals, and the sepals remain persistent even after flowering. The stigma of the pistil is four-lobed and densely covered with pale pink hairs.
