An Ottoman writer. Katip Çelebi was a nickname based on his occupation; his real name was Mustafa bin Abdullah. In the West, he was known as Hajj Khalifa. He was born in Istanbul as the son of a civil servant, and after working as a practical civil servant and holding various posts around the country, he died in Istanbul. In addition to his work, he continued to study both Islamic studies and secular learning, and left behind many works in a wide range of fields, including bibliography, history, geography, and Islamic theology, making him known as the greatest encyclopedic polymath of the Ottoman period.

オスマン朝の文人。キャーティプ・チェレビーは職業に基づくあだ名で,本名はムスタファ・ブン・アブドゥッラー。欧米ではハッジ・ハリーファとして知られる。官人の子としてイスタンブールに生まれ,自身も実務官人として各地を転任し諸職を歴任した後,イスタンブールで没した。本務のかたわらイスラム教学と世俗的諸学問の両方面について研究を続け,書誌学,歴史学,地理学,イスラム神学その他広い分野にまたがって多くの著作を残し,オスマン朝最大の百科全書的博学者として知られる。
