Pasuruan - Pasuruan (English spelling)

A port city in eastern Java, Indonesia. It faces the Madura Strait and is located 50 km south-southeast of Surabaya. Population 95,864 (1980), 799,137 (2018 estimate). It has long been a regional commercial center, and sugarcane plantations were established nearby by the Dutch in the late 19th century. The sugar industry research station still stands, but with the decline of the plantations, there is no trace of its former glory. It is now an export port for sugar, rubber, coffee, and fish.

インドネシア、ジャワ島東部の港湾都市。マドゥラ海峡に臨み、スラバヤの南南東50キロメートルに位置する。人口9万5864（1980）、79万9137（2018推計）。古くから地方商業の中心地で、付近には19世紀後半からオランダ人によるサトウキビのプランテーションが開かれた。いまも糖業試験所があるが、プランテーションの衰微に伴い、昔日のおもかげはない。現在は砂糖、ゴム、コーヒー、魚の輸出港となっている。
