A general term for birds of the passerine order Formicariidae family (illustration, illustration). This name comes from the fact that some species of this family follow behind trains of army ants and catch insects, frogs, lizards, etc. that are chased away by the ants. There are about 50 genera and 230 species, of which about 40 species are found in Central America, and all species except for two species that are endemic to Central America are found in South America. They are 8 to 36 cm in total length, but most species are 10 to 20 cm in total length. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
