Tsai Ting-shun

Japanese: 蔡廷鍇 - さいていかい

1892‐1968
A Chinese soldier from Luoding County, Guangdong Province. Born into poor peasant family, he graduated from Baoding Military Academy and joined the army. He fought bravely at the head of the 19th Route Army during the Shanghai Incident in 1932, but was defeated by Chiang Kai-shek. The following year, he became chairman of the Military Committee of the Fujian People's Government from an anti-Chiang stance. After victory in the anti-Japanese war, he organized the Kuomintang Association for the Promotion of Democracy, and maintained a high position in the People's Republic even after liberation. He came to Japan at the head of a Chinese delegation to the Atomic and Hydrogen Bomb Prevention Conference in 1957. [Hasama Naoki]

中国の軍人。広東省羅定県の人。貧農の出で，保定軍官学校を卒業して軍隊に入った。1932年の上海事変では十九路軍を率いて奮戦したが蔣介石に退けられ，翌年，反蔣の立場から福建人民政府軍事委員会主席となった。抗日戦勝利後，国民党民主促進会を組織し，解放後も人民共和国で高い地位にあった。57年の原水禁大会に中国代表団を率いて来日した。【狭間直樹】
