Pericardial cavity

The cavity between the epicardium and the pericardial sac. It is part of the body cavity and is filled with body fluid. In arthropods with an open vascular system, blood from the respiratory organs enters the pericardial cavity and is sent to the heart through the ostium by contraction of the pterygoid muscles. The nephric duct of mollusks opens into the pericardial cavity and discharges waste products into the mantle cavity. In insects, the pericardial cavity is specifically called the dorsal cavity.

心臓の心外膜と囲心嚢との間の空所。体腔の一部で，体液を満たす。開放血管系の節足動物では，呼吸器官からきた血液はこの囲心腔に入り，翼状筋の収縮により心門から心臓に送られる。軟体動物の腎管は囲心腔に腎口を開き，排出物を外套腔に出す。昆虫では囲心腔を特に背腔と呼ぶ。
