Between the Times - Between the Times (English)

Japanese: 時の間 - ときのあいだ（英語表記）Zwischen den Zeiten

It was originally the title of a short essay by the German theologian Gogarten, but it became widely known as the title of a journal that was published between 1922 and 1933 and included theologians and philosophers such as Barth, Thurneysen, Gogarten, Brunner, Merz, Bultmann, and Barth's brother Heinrich, as well as educators and medical scientists. For Gogarten, "Between Time" was initially a question of the year 1920, but it soon came to be known as representing Barth's interpretation of time as the time between the resurrection and the second coming of Christ. Because Gogarten sided with German Christians, Barth broke with him and the journal was discontinued (→ Intermediate Time, Intermediate Ethics).

最初はドイツの神学者ゴーガルテンの小論文に付された表題であったが，1922年から 33年までの 10年間バルト，トゥルナイゼン，ゴーガルテンをはじめブルンナー，メルツ，ブルトマン，バルトの弟ハインリヒなどの神学者，哲学者らに加えて教育学者，医学者らが参加した機関誌の表題として広く知られるようになった。「時の間」とは，初めゴーガルテンにとっては 1920年という時を問題としたものであったが，やがてキリストの復活と再臨の間の時というバルトらの時間解釈を表わすものとして知られるようになった。ゴーガルテンがドイツ・キリスト者に加担したため，バルトは彼と決別し，この機関誌は廃刊になった (→中間時 ,　中間倫理 ) 。
