Bonhoeffer - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

German Protestant pastor and theologian. Born in Breslau (Wrocław) on February 4th as the son of a professor of psychopathology. Studied at the universities of Tübingen and Berlin, and studied abroad at Union Theological Seminary in New York. After returning to Germany, he served as a private lecturer at the University of Berlin, a student pastor, and an officer of the World Council of Churches. In 1935, he joined the anti-Nazi Confessing Church, and during World War II, he participated in the resistance movement and participated in the plot by some German army officers to assassinate Hitler (July 20th Incident). He was arrested on April 5th, 1943, and executed on April 9th, 1945, just before the end of the war. He left behind many letters and posthumous manuscripts in prison. After the war, his close friend Eberhard Bethge (1909-2000) edited his important posthumous manuscripts, such as "Resistance and Obedience" and "Ethics," which continue to have a great influence today.
