Japanese: アリクイ(蟻喰) - アリクイ（英語表記）anteater

A general term for mammals of the Myrmecophagidae family, which are ant-eating animals with a long, slender snout and long tongue protruding from a cylindrical head. There are four species: the Giant Anteater Myrmecophaga tridactyla (illustration), the Southern Tamandua Tamandua tetradactyla (illustration), the Northern Tamandua T. mexicana , and the Little Anteater Cyclopes didactylus (illustration). They live in tropical forests and savannas from southern Mexico through Central America to Paraguay in South America.

円筒状の頭部から突出する細長い口吻（こうふん）部と長い舌をもつアリ食の，貧歯目アリクイ科Myrmecophagidaeの哺乳類の総称。オオアリクイMyrmecophaga tridactyla（イラスト），ミナミコアリクイTamandua tetradactyla（イラスト），キタコアリクイT.mexicana，ヒメアリクイCyclopes didactylus（イラスト）の4種がある。メキシコ南部から中央アメリカを経て南アメリカのパラグアイに至る熱帯林やサバンナに生息する。
