Turkish mathematician and astronomer. He was a falconer (kusiç) under the Timurid dynasty's Ulugh Beg, but due to his knowledge he was appointed director of the observatory in Samarkand, and after Ulugh Beg's death he served under Uzun Hasan of the Ak-Koyunlu dynasty. He then went to Istanbul as an envoy, where he was asked by Mehmed II to serve in the Ottoman Empire. He founded a school, taught mathematics, astronomy, and logic, and wrote many books. His students included many outstanding scholars, engineers, and admirals. [Koyama Koichiro]

トルコの数学者,天文学者。ティムール朝ウルグ・ベクの鷹匠(クシチュ)であったが,学識を買われてサマルカンドの天文台長を務め,ウルグ・ベクが死ぬとアク・コユンル朝のウズン・ハサンに仕えた。さらに,使節としてイスタンブールに赴き,そこでメフメト2世の懇望をうけてオスマン朝に仕官した。学校を創設して,数学,天文学,論理学を教え,また多数の著述をした。その弟子から優れた学者,技術家,提督が輩出した。【小山 皓一郎】
