Peking opera actor. Female actor. Born in Beijing. He believed that theater should have the meaning of elevating one's goals in life, and in plays such as "The Chained Bag," "Tears on the Wild Mountain," and "Spring Dream," he portrayed women who endure the oppression of feudal society and endure repeated misfortunes with a graceful and dignified expression even in the midst of melancholy. He studied traditional drama theory and adapted and performed many plays, always reflecting the demands of the times and the people. His unique improvements, which break monotony with melodic combinations, influenced the singing art of female Peking opera actors. The Cheng school of acting was inherited by Li Shiji, Zhao Rongchen, and others, and the stage play "Tears on the Wild Mountain" was made into a film by director Wu Zuguang in 1956. His works include "Selected Plays Directed by Cheng Jianqiu."

京劇俳優。女方。北京(ペキン)出身。演劇は人生の目標を高める意義を備えるべきだという演劇観をもち、『鎖麟嚢(えにし)』『荒山涙(こうざんむせぶ)』『春閨夢(しゅんけいむ)』などで、封建社会の圧迫にも屈せず重なる不幸に耐える女性を哀愁のなかにも淡雅に凛然(りんぜん)と表現した。伝統劇理論の研究を積み、多くの戯曲を改作・自作上演し、つねに時代と人民の要求を反映させた。メロディーの組合せで単調さを破る独自の改良は、京劇女方の歌唱芸術に影響を与えた。程派の演技は李世済(りせいさい)、趙栄琛(ちょうえいたん)らによって継承され、『荒山涙』の舞台は呉祖光(ごそこう)監督で1956年に映画化された。『程硯秋演出(じょうえん)劇本選集』などの著作がある。
